           4-John LANIER, Jr. was born about 1655 in England and died after
                Jan 1717 in Prince George, Virginia.

            The Will of John Lanier
           
           
            IN THE NAME OF GOD, AMEN: I, John Lanier, in the County of Prince
            George Co.,
            being verry weak and ailling in Body but in perfect mind and memory,
            thanks be
            given unto God therefore it is appointed for all men once to dye, I
            do make and
            ordain this my last will and testament that it is to say principally
            and first of all, I
            give and bequeathe my sould into the hands of god that gave it, and
            for my body I
            commend it to the Earth to be buried in a Christian Like and Decent
            manner, to the
            Discretion of my Executor -- nothing Doubting but at the generall
            resurrection, I shall
            receive the same again, by the mighty power of God, and as toucjing
            with Worldly
            Estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless in this Life, I give
            Devise and
            Dispose of the same in the following manner and form --
           
            First, I give to my son Robert Lanier, one Shilling
           
            Secondly, I give to my son John Lanier, one Shilling
           
            Thirdly, I give to my son Sampson Lanier twelve Shillings
           
            Fourthly, I give to my Daughter Sarah Brewer one Cow or Heifer of
            three years old
           
            Fifthly, I give to my grandson John Lanier, the son of Nicholas
            Lanier, my son, a
            feather bed and holster and blanketts and ruggs all new and good and
            a small gunn
            well fixt, and I give to him two pewter Dishes and Bason and One
            Chest with lock
            and key and Six Spoons, One Iron pott and potthooks, and frying pan
            and a small
            pair of Stillyards and two Combs and a young Horse of three years old
            and three
            sheep.
           
            Lastly, I give to my son Nicholas Lanier, all the land I now live
            upon, and all my
            land on the Otterdams to him and his heirs forever, and I give to my
            son Nicholas all
            my movables and immovables. I do make my son, Nicholas Lanier, my
            whole and
            sole Exor. of my Last Will and Testament . to see that it is perfomed
            As Witness my
            hand and seal this the 5th. of Jany, of 1717.

            At a court held in Merchantshope for the County of Prince George on
            the second
            Tuesday in April being the fourteenth Day of the said month Anno.

            The aabove written Last Will and Testament of John Lanier, Deced, was
            exhibited
            into Court by Nicholas Lanier his Exectr. who made Oath thereto, and
            it being Duly
            proved by William Peebles, Henry Peebles and Thomas Burrow the sevel
            witnesses
            thereto is by order of the Court truly recorded and Certificate is
            granted the said
            Nicholas Lanier for Obtaining a Probate in Due form.

            Research Notes: John Lanier, Jr.
            JOHN LANIER JR. was born in 1655 in England, and died ca 1718-19 in
            Prince George County, Virginia. He married (1) in 1677 in Charles
            City County, Virginia to ---- unknown ---- and (2) ca 1685 to Sarah
            Edmunds. Sarah was a widow of Edward Edmunds, by which she had a
            daughter, Elizabeth. John was a participant in Bacon's Rebellion. In
            1683 John and Peter Wyche patented 1,482 acres in Charles City County
            for transporting 30 persons. When Prince George County was formed in
            1702, this land was in the new county where John was listed as having
            700 acres in the Quit Rent Rolls of 1704. John was in Prince George
            County when he wrote his will, dated 5 January 1717, recorded 14
            April 1719, and appointed his son, Nicholas, to be executor. John
            mentioned his sons, Robert, John, Sampson and Nicholas, daughter,
            Sarah Brewer, and grandson, John, son of Nicholas. A wife was not
            mentioned.

                 WASHINGTON, Sr. and Elizabeth JORDAN, in Virginia. Priscilla was
                 born on an unknown date. They had four children: John, Thomas,
                 Robert, and Priscilla.

               5-John LANIER, III was born about 1680 in Charles City, Virginia
                 and died about 1728 in Surry, Virginia about age 48.

                 John married Elizabeth BIRD, daughter of Thomas BIRD, Sr. and
                 Mary ____________, about 1703 in Surry, Virginia. Elizabeth was
                 born on an unknown date. They had five children: Robert,
                 Benjamin, Mary, Bird Thomas, and Lemuel.

                6-Robert LANIER was born in Surry, Virginia and died about 1759
                  in Surry, Virginia.

                6-Benjamin LANIER was born in Surry, Virginia and died about
                  1730 in Surry, Virginia.

                 7-Benjamin LANIER was born in Brunswick, Virginia.

                6-Lemuel LANIER was born about 1707 in Surry, Virginia and died
                  about 1764 in Georgia about age 57.

             5-Sampson LANIER, Sr. was born in 1682 in Charles City, Virginia
                 and died after Jan 1742 in Brunswick, Virginia.

            General Notes: The following was Compiled by Wayne D. Lanier :
             Sampson Lanier:
            Third son of John Lanier, Jr. born Charles City County 1682 (by
            deposition made in Surry Co. March 21, 1738), first appears in
            contemporary records as a "Tithable" in the upper end of Surry County
            above Stony Run in 1701. He married about 1706 in Surry, Elizabeth,
            daughter of Richard Washington, and granddaughter of John Washington
            of Surry County.
