Descendants of GEORGE NICHOLS
1-George NICHOLS was born about 1755, died about 1800 in Newberry
District, South Carolina about age 45, and was buried in Newberry
District, South Carolina.
General Notes: George and Elizabeth's family lived between Bush River
and Big Creek of Saluda River near the location of St. Luke's Church.
Research Notes: 1800 - Census - George Nichols was over 45 years old.
George married Elizabeth UNKNOWN, daughter of ____________
____________ and ____________ ____________. Elizabeth was born about
1757, died about Oct 1804 in Newberry District, South Carolina about
age 47, and was buried in Newberry District, South Carolina. They
had six children: William, Allen, Sally, Rachel, Luke, and Mark.
2-William NICHOLS was born about 1785 in Newberry District, South
Carolina, died about 1855 in Perry Co., Alabama about age 70, and
was buried in Mt. Pleasant Church Cemetery, Perry Co., Alabama.
General Notes: In 1817, Wm. Nichols bought land from his uncle,
Robert Maffit, Sr. This land has been previously owned by Mattias
Hair.
In 1819, Wm. Nichols contributed land for a Baptist Church from this
tract. As a neighborhood church, this seems to have been replaced
after 1828 by St. Luke's Lutheran Church.
About 1830, the family of Wm. Nichols moved to Perry County, Alabama,
settling near the town of Sprott. They are buried in Mt. Pleasant
Church Cemetery, Perry County, Alabama.
William married Barbara HAIR, daughter of Matthias HAIR and Fannie
RIKARD. Barbara was born about 1788, died after 1865 in Perry Co.,
Alabama, and was buried in Mt. Pleasant Church Cemetery, Perry Co.,
Alabama. They had eight children: George Marlowe, Elizabeth
"Betsy," John K., Matthias Hair, Joseph Land, Sarah "Sally,"
William Mark, and Peter Washington.
3-George Marlowe NICHOLS was born in 1810 in Newberry District,
South Carolina, died from 1856 to 1858 in Perry Co., Alabama at
age 46, and was buried in Mt. Pleasant Church Cemetery, Perry
Co., Alabama.
